Your little one is approaching their first year in the world and it’s time to party, yay! With all the chaos and uncertainty in our world at the moment, taking a day to safely celebrate with our loved ones is just what the doctor ordered. A first birthday party provides a great opportunity to take some amazing photographs to capture the memories as well as make your little one feel special and spend time with all those close to them.

Our tips for a stress-free but special day :

  • Set a date early, make sure the most important people are able to attend.
  • Create a to-do-list!
  • To save money you may like to schedule the party away from major meal times and keep it to party food and nibbles.
  • Ask a friend or a family member to be photographer so you may get lots of photos with your little one and nothing gets missed!
  • Make a musical playlist ahead of time for at least double the length of the party time so you can set it and forget it.
  • Provide an oversized card or guest book you can have all guests sign as a keepsake for the birthday boy or girl.

There’s no need to blow out on budget! A simple game of “Simon Says” or an activity table with crayons and paper is enough to keep little ones entertained.

Choose a THEME! This makes things so much easier when it comes to planning and decision making, it’s also a fun dress up for the birthday boy or girl. Pinterest is a great way to get inspired, check out our Winter Rosie Pinterest board for all things party inspo.

Choosing a Theme

A party theme should fit the occasion and can make the day so much fun. As an organiser you can tie so much back to your theme. Consider the colour, even if that colour is rainbow! Look at what is on trend and what you can get your hands on within your budget. Keep it as simple or fancy as you like. Perhaps suggest your guess dress in that colour. Balloons double as decor as well as useful for party games and photo backdrops. Here’s two themes that our customers at Winter Rosie Boutique absolutely love!

UNICORNS

Is there anything more magical than a unicorn? Unicorns will capture the imagination of little ones and the young at heart alike. You may like to keep your colours to pastels (pink, yellow and blue always looks beautiful) or go full neon rainbow and ask your guests to dress in any colour they so desire! Dressing your little one the part is key for wonderful photos, after all they are the guest of honour.

When selecting your food, you could go with the classic fairy bread or rainbow Paddle Pops, colourful Movietime popcorn or for a healthier option, mixed fruit salad skewers encompassing lots of colour, some might say it even resembles a unicorn’s horn.

Your guests could be gifted with Unicorn sleep masks or perhaps a game of pass the parcel with masks in each layer and a plush Unicorn backpack for the lucky winner could be just the ticket! Glitter or confetti will turn your setting into a magical wonderland (just have the vacuum cleaner at the ready come party’s end).

GARDEN PARTY

Why not transform your backyard into a garden party for the little ones to explore! By stringing up colourful streamers in the trees or bushes, a woodland theme is sure to delight boys and girls alike. You could ask your guests to dress in florals, reuse those bunny ears from Easter and perhaps a little one celebrating may like to be adorned in a summer outfit of sunflowers or a beautiful flower crown.

For activities, your backyard could play host to hide and seek, a pinata, musical chairs or perhaps a colouring-in activity. A set of kids binoculars could turn anyone into an intrepid adventurer. You can find free downloads of colouring in scenes incorporating plants and animals at this link. Every guest can go home with their own original creation!

At Winter Rosie Boutique we have some fun dress up options for Garden Parties, whether the birthday child be a lady bug or a bunny rabbit. Perhaps for food, it’s a good one for firing up the BBQ!

When it comes to throwing your special birthday girl or boy an effective party, we here at Winter Rosie Boutique believe the best thing to do is ask your circle for help! Whether it is with bringing a dish, facilitating a game, post-party clean up, designing your invitations – it often takes a village and by working together we get things done.
